Massage
I have been practicing massage therapy on the shores of Lake Superior for 19 years and am trained in a variety of relaxation and rehabilitative massage modalities. I refer to this aspect of my business as Bodywork. I hold the highest certification available. I tend to draw from all these modalities for the most effective, customized treatment possible. I was a massage instructor for a couple years at a massage school, managed an Aveda spa, and was a corporate private contractor for several years. I have worked in most aspects of the industry. As a profession, it is a very natural and easy fit for me. I am grateful I took the leap of faith to go to massage school after college and before graduate school. I ended up enjoying it so much I decided to stay in the healing arts and pursue it full-time.
Massage is organized into modalities ranging from relaxation to rehabilitative in nature. Massage is the manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health, well being and function. People seek massage therapy for a variety of reasons: to reduce stress and anxiety, relax muscles and minds, rehabilitate injuries, reduce pain and promote overall health and wellness. It is an excellent complement to any healthcare plan.
What type of Massage is the best fit for you?
If you are not clear what type of massage is the best fit for you, feel free to contact me and I would be happy to give you my professional recommendation. Sometimes resolving an area of concern takes time, commitment and a variety of techniques. I will do my best to provide you with a clear treatment plan from the start. A good rule of thumb is if you are having specific complaints, discomfort or limited function, three sessions of one hour each is a good starting point. If you find for any reason you’re not ready, able or comfortable with this level of commitment then it is probably better for you to hold off and wait until a time that you can commit. The body needs time to integrate between sessions but also often needs more than one session to resolve the issue at hand.
How often should you schedule?
If you are happy with your level of health and function, schedule an appointment whenever you like. If you are looking to raise your level of health then you must keep your appointments within 14 days of each other in order to build on the previous session. This is very important.
